Organizational Setting
The United Nations Productive Sectors Development Programme (PSDP) aims to support gender-responsive job creation and economic opportunities in the agriculture and agro-food sectors. Six UN organizations have joined efforts to implement this programme: UNIDO, FAO, UNDP, ILO, UN Women and UNICEF.
The PSDP includes interventions on three levels: the macro (national policy), meso (institutional) and micro levels. The micro-level aims at improved capacity of women farmers, women-led cooperatives and women-led micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), as well as male-led entities in productive sectors to create and sustain gender equitable job opportunities and adopt environmentally sustainable practices. The programme has selected pilot value chains such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and pulses and the pilot areas of Akkar and North of Lebanon for the micro-level implementation.
With the aim of ensuring food safety and quality standards of agricultural produce within the selected value chains, 250 men and women farmers and 20 men and women farm workers, will be supported through awareness sessions and technical training on Good Agricultural Practices (GAP). Women and men farmers will be further supported through monitoring their improved practices and provision of related inputs to help them acquire GAP certifications.

Apple production technical advisor will report to the Resilience And Liaison Officer at FAO Lebanon.

Conduct field visits on the basis of 4 times a week to individual women and men apple producers within the Framers filed school (FFS) to their farm locations to monitor implementation of practices of Integrated Crop Management (ICM) as set in Quality Manual system (QMS) and advise farmers accordingly.
Tasks and responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Project manager, the Apple production (vegetable Greenhouse production) technical advisor will carry out the following tasks:
• Conduct field visits on the basis of 4 times a week to individual women and men apple producers within the Framers filed school (FFS) to their farm locations
• Evaluate farmers’ implementation of practices of Integrated Crop Management (ICM) as set in Quality Manual system (QMS).
• Provide technical advice and guidance to individual farmers as needed, with specific attention to women farmers needs on corrective actions and or solutions
• Train women and men farmers within the FFS group as might be needed based on field visits or as part of corrective actions;
• Maintain the established comparative pilot plot as to per the set QMS / Phyto-Sanitary manual starting from the preparation for planting until after harvesting.
• Keep detailed record on progress of application of improved agricultural practices by women and men farmer;
• Supervise the process and quality of record keeping and documentation of the QMS; Prepare and submit a weekly report summarizing implemented activities, observations findings, actions and measures taken for follow up and farmers compliance with ICM/IPM certification.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements
• University Degree in Agriculture/Crop Production/Protection
• 7 years of experience in farmers’ advisory and extension services and or trainings.
• Working knowledge of English and Arabic languages.
• Nationality of Lebanon or resident in the country with a regular work permit, based in north of Lebanon and/or Akkar.
