Program Scope:

 

English Access Microscholaship Program (Access) is a two-year global scholarship program supported by the U.S. Department of State that provides a foundation of English language skills to bright, economically disadvantaged students, primarily aged 13 to 20 through After-School classes with Enhancement Activities, and Intensive Sessions. The goal of the Access Program is to prepare students who have a minimal knowledge of English, with effective communication and critical thinking skills through meaningful interaction, cooperative learning strategies, and real-life contexts. The English Access Microscholarship Program in Lebanon will be implemented by Teach For Lebanon and will offer 500 teenagers', (25 classes of 20 public high school students each across 5 regions in Lebanon), the opportunity to increase their English language proficiency by receiving 360 hours of English as a second Language, enhancement and leadership activities. The English Access Microscholarship Program will also include capacity building and mentoring for 100 teachers across 5 regions in Lebanon

Job Summary

The Access Education Mentor serves as a critical agent in ensuring educational support for the Access teachers. The main scope of work involves following up and documenting Access teachers’ lesson plans, classroom outcomes and areas of improvements. They also ensure continuous professional development of teachers and better student outcomes, by helping them reach ambitious goals and share experiences.

 

Main Accountabilities

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Teachers observation

  •  Manage a group of Teachers to achieve ambitious outcomes in their classrooms.
  • Review and edit Teachers’ Lesson plans and provide written feedback.
  • Observe teachers in their classrooms once per month to gather information on student learning and teacher proficiency (or more when necessary)
  •    Conduct a reflection session with the Teacher after every classroom observation.
  •  Fill in the observation tracker and the leadership tracker.
  • Have biweekly phone calls for a short check-in with the Teachers
  • Write reports reflecting the Teachers’ progress, challenges and areas of improvements.
  • Share all needed information about Teachers and schools with the coordinator and Director of the program as needed.

 

Teachers Training and development

  • Analyze data and problem solve with teachers to prioritize the teacher actions and underlying factors that most impact student outcomes.
  •  Design and execute individual and group learning experiences to ensure that teachers acquire the knowledge, skills, and mindsets they need to increase their proficiency.
  • Train and support Teachers to establish strong goals, assessments, and plans.
  • Participate in planning students’ activities during the Access Program period to achieve program objectives.
  •  Build a healthy relationship with school leaders throughout the academic year across regions to aim for stakeholder’s satisfaction.
  • Lead conflict resolutions between Teachers and partner schools.
  • Suggest initiatives that would help develop the ESL teaching department.

 

Monitoring and Evaluation

  •  Create and maintain a database of information by appropriate documentation.
  • Monitor and evaluate Extra-Curricular Activities.
  •  Facilitate the work of the monitoring and evaluation officer, helping by sharing success stories and the likes.

 

Requirements

  •  Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, Education or any other related field.
  •  A Master’s degree is preferable.
  •  Candidate must score an average of 6.5 across all 4 skills in the ILETS test or a minimum of 90 on the TOEFL test.
  •  At least 3 years of classroom teaching experience.
  •  Previous experience in the non-governmental sector in Lebanon.
  •  Proficiency in English and Arabic.
  •  Proven skills in report writing.
  •  Strong command of Microsoft Office applications.
  •  Ability to prepare and deliver workshops.

 

Working Conditions

Location:The chosen candidate will be based in Hamra Office with frequent visits to South and Bekaa regions (transportation to field visits is facilitated).

Package:Competitive salary based on experience with NSSF and Medical-Life Insurance benefits.

Other: Willingness to work some weekends and evenings to facilitate Access Teacher's professional development, conferences and trainings.
