About ABAAD:
ABAAD is a non-profit, non-politically affiliated, non-confessional organization that aims to achieve gender equality as an essential condition to sustainable peace, democracy and social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD believes that eliminating gender-based barriers, discrimination and violence while building women and girls’ agency and critical consciousness can allow them to participate effectively in all life spheres, lead change on their own, realize their rights and freely determine their life outcomes.
ABAAD is a pioneer organization, in both Lebanon and the MENA region, whose work involves engaging men in masculinities and ending violence against women as one of its main pillars. ABAAD seeks to support and collaborate with civil society organizations who work on or want to activate i) gender equality, gender-based violence, and/or engaging men programs, ii) direct services for women and men, and iii) advocacy campaigns. ABAAD coordinates the Men Engage Lebanon Network and represents, to be formed, MENA regional network to the Men Engage Global Alliance.
About Men Engage global alliance and Men Engage Lebanon
Men Engage Global Alliance is a space for members to come together in solidarity with those most targeted by gender injustices and patriarchal systems to collectively dismantle structural barriers to women’s rights and gender equality. As a global network, we bring together people and organizations with a shared vision of a world in which gender justice and human rights are recognized, promoted and protected, where all people are equal and free from discrimination and oppression.
Men Engage Lebanon is a network with member organizations from various local and international organizations working to promote human rights and gender equality in Lebanon. Men Engage Lebanon members aim to collaborate together, to boost all its members’ capacities and develop relevant processes in Lebanon aimed at ‘transforming masculinities and engaging boys and men in the struggle for women’s rights and gender equality and the elimination of gender-based violence and discrimination’. ABAAD is acting as a leading agency for the men engage network for a period of time.
Recently, Men Engage Lebanon network developed its Strategic Plan, following a series of consultation sessions. Men Engage Lebanon is affiliated with Men Engage Alliance at the global level as its Country Network in Lebanon
ABAAD (as the coordinator of the network) will be also responsible to network with organizations in the MENA region and this is in the aim of establishing a Men Engage
Duties & Responsibilities
The overall responsibility of the Network Coordinator, Men Engage Lebanon would be to coordinate and provide strategic support to strengthen the Men Engage Lebanon Network, in collaboration with ABAAD. The individual should be able to lead the network and provide advice and guidance on how to move forward. The role includes:
- Coordinate the operationalization of the Men Engage Lebanon’s Strategic Plan and lead on the development of the work plan and its implementation.
- Maintain regular communications with the general ME-N members, governance committee members and the Global Secretariat as and when required.
- Develop the resource mobilization plan necessary to implement the action work-plan of the Network and set reporting processes, in close coordination with the members, ABAAD and the governance committee.
- Liaise with the Global Secretariat and relevant agencies, including donor agencies, as relevant during the course of operationalization of the Network’s Strategic Plan.
- Monitor the progress of the Network’s work plan a to ensure the successful implementation, including rollout of the implementation of Code of Conduct and Accountability standards and guidelines.
- Represent the Network in meetings and events, including maintaining active presence in both online and offline communication platforms.
- Liaise with the head of programs, Masculinities Technical Advisor at ABAAD and the Global Secretariat of Men Engage Alliance, including others relevant, to initiate networks establishment processes in other countries in the MENA region.
- Provide secretarial support to the leadership and network as a whole by acting as the anchor and facilitator.
- Take on initiatives to share information with the network members, mobilize different activities, and identify new opportunities to benefit the network.
- Mobilize the Men Engage network members for collective actions, resource generation and partnerships.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- University Degree: Gender studies, Humanities or other relevant fields
- 3 to 5 years of relevant job experience.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills; team player;
- Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Proficiency in Arabic and English; French is a plus
- Understanding of issues related to ABAAD’s strategic areas of focus (gender equality, GBV, case management, mainstreaming, women empowerment, etc.)
- Excellent understanding and knowledge about women’s rights, gender and masculinities issues, and engaging boys and men.
- Excellent team building and leadership skills,
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team.
- Ability to think strategically and experience of coordinating and managing networks and related programmatic aspects;
- Highly organized and able to keep track of schedules;
- Strong networking and management skills, particularly with regard to working with others to get things done, including working effectively in complex matrix management situations;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to motivate, influence and negotiate both internally and externally;
- Previous facilitation and training experience an asset;
- Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision and values of ABAAD mainly related to gender issues.
