THE PROJECT:
Thought and led by Lebanese activists, artists and journalists, Allo, Beirut? is pluridisciplinary project dealing with social changes, arts, investigative journalism, social justice and education. Based on an investigative documentation combined with sensory and immersive experiences, the project aims to use art and journalism to enables us to cultivate a sense of belonging, to question the past, and to envision the future for Lebanon. Launched on September 15 2022, “Allo, Beirut?” is a 9 months public immersive and interactive exhibition that takes place in the Beit Beirut Museum in Lebanon.
As our goal is to appeal to a new audience to Beit Beirut and to make the visitors feel that this museum belongs to them, a rich cultural program will be created and implemented from February to June 2023 such as school visits, debates, storytelling, film projections and one main pluridisciplinary event on the topic “Dealing with the Past”.
SCOPE OF WORK:
Management and Implementation
- Manage a team of 5 Museum Supervisor (or more), maintenance technicians and cleaning staff
- Follow up on the day-to-day activities and work progress and ensure daily site visits.
- Report on a daily basis to the Project Director the daily implemented activities or issues experienced at the level of the exhibition
- Attend weekly meetings lead by the Project Director
- Develop new activities in coordination with the Project Director
- Produce, coordinate and implement any sort of cultural program events (artists, speakers, partners, communication, production if needed, equipment providers, etc.)
- Assist Project Director in developing budget and timelines, together with the Admin & Finance manager
- Assist Project Director in developing the action plans to ensure compliance with the Project’s timeline; together with the Admin & Finance manager
- Assign responsibilities and tasks to technicians and other team members on production and cultural activities; providing them with direction
- Manage project resources and their costs by collecting appropriate background and product information; estimate, negotiate and agree budgets and timescales for the cultural activities and programs with suppliers and managers; coordinate with suppliers, contractors and specialists, such as carpenters, electricians, lighting technicians; scan the market for second hand furniture and objects needed for the installations as per the directives of the Project Director. Coordinate with the Adm & Finance manager in terms of expenditures and invoices.
- Be responsible for opening and closing “Allo, Beirut?” exhibition and office depending on schedule
Logistics
- Ensure the integrity of the Allo, Beirut? exhibition by replacing/reproducing archives, preserving the artwork as thought by the artists.
- Manage safety and maintenance of artifacts and exhibitions.
- Organize the repair and routine maintenance of production equipment.
- Ensure that health and safety regulations are met.
- Coordinate with Beit Beirut’s director for daily basis operations.
- Making sure the inventory stock of flyers, archives reproductions’, multimedia equipment is on track in coordination with the Admin & Finance manager
- Identify problems related to Beit Beirut or the exhibition itself, prevent them and provide solutions.
- Organize the dismantlement of the exhibition
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- A university degree in Cultural Affairs, Art Production, Visual and Performing Arts, TV Production, Cinema Production or any related field in implementing education, cultural and art projects
- Minimum 7 years of previous job experience relevant to the function or a related field
- Familiarity with the socio-cultural context of Lebanon and the social, cultural, political, and religious sensitivities relevant to context.
- Fluency in Arabic and English, both written and verbal.
- Strong people management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with local stakeholders and team members.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize tasks, and cope with competing demands under tight deadlines.
- Able to establish and maintain good working relationships with people from different backgrounds.
- High-level of knowledge and practice with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Outlook required.
